Week 3 Remi Homework and Videos

NOTE:   PLEASE PRACTICE OFF LEASH OUTSIDE WITH THE LONG LINE.  OTHERWISE, YOU CAN PRACTICE THESE WITHOUT A LEASH INSIDE.  HOWEVER, IF SHE STARTS TO BE CONFUSED OR HAVE A PROBLEM, YOU CAN ALWAYS SLIP THE LEASH BACK ON TO REINTRODUCE THE EXERCISE.

Homework Schedule:

Calming Exercises (You Can Rotate These on Different Days):

  1. Sit on the Dog 30 + minutes Goal:  To get your dog to lay down on their own steam in five minutes or under. Week 3 Change:  Practice this with her in more distractions (at a park, at a restaurant that allows dogs on the deck, at the beach especially the picnic tables and benches at Long Sands at the bath house).


  2. Long Place 30 minutes to start  Goal:  To get your dog comfortable and more relaxed staying on their place for five minutes.  Week 2 Changes:  Build this up to 30 minutes now, and see if you can drop the leash at home.   If you are outside, you could practice this on the long line (place object should be somewhat comfortable for 1/2 hour practice).  I DIDN'T GET A VIDEO OF THE LEASH DROPPED DOING THIS, BUT WE DID PRACTICE IT.



Obedience Exercises:
  1. Heeling and  Sit with Correction if needed 15 minutes  Goal:  To get 3-5 well positioned steps in a row in each string, and then stop and practice sit.  Remember to say sit first, then wait 1 Mississippi count before giving the interim sit correction.  Hopefully she does more than a few sits on her own so we can advance the sit later.  If she does, then your goal is to get three sets of four in a row sits without needing a correction (but that may be a little bit in coming). Week 3 is no real change.   There are tips on the ecollar in the heeling directions.  I can explain those and show you how to start it when you come back.  Sits can now be on ecollar.

  2. Let's Go (just means come towards me or you) 15 minutes  Goal;  You want 4 in a row "let's gos" 3 times.  Week 3 Change:  You can now mix this in with other exercises you are practicing like send to place, circle place, sits, still sit stay, and circle sit stay.  Both of the exercises in this video can be practiced on ecollar.

  3. Send to Place 5 plus minutes Goal:  To get your dog to step on themselves for times in a row for 3 sets.  Week 3 change is that send to place can be practiced on ecollar without leash inside (same type of correction as let's go).  Outside please use the long line.



  4. Circle Place 5 plus minutes  Goal:  To be able to perform 4 circle places in a row for one minute.  Week 3 Change is this can now be practiced without leash but on  ecollar (If you practice this outside, please use the long line).  If she starts to come off, go towards her and practice giving her an ecollar correction so she learns to go back on herself.




  5. Circle Sit Stays 7+ minutes Goal:  To get four in a row 1 minute circle sit stays.  Week 3:  This can be practiced off leash and on ecollar inside now.  If you do this outside, please use the long line.


  6. Recalls 15 reps total or 7 plus minutes  Goal:  Just get your dog used to coming in towards and then sitting (or practice interim sit correction with her) quickly.   This starts the muscle memory for the command.  Week 3:  You can practice this inside off leash on ecollar.  If you practice outside, be sure to use the long line.
